A PC as well? Excellent work!
The colour I used was Gunze Aqueous colour #44 Flesh.. i dare say they are the same shade

Hi Sam. thanks for the kind words. I really liked your approach to the weathering on your gun car in using oils to dust and weather the vehicle as opposed to pigments which can be difficult to control. What color of Windsor and Newton oils did you use and were they mixed or straight color from the tube. Your input is much appreciated.
Cheers, Jeff.

Skip forward on this one!
Paint on, a mix of White Ensign Models and gunze. The decals were custom made for my by Jason Miller - the silvering on them is operator error, not anything to do with the decals themselves! Im working on a fix for this at present..
Just started weathering now.
THis vehicle im depicting I dont think actually went to Iraq, the shots i have of it are in Australia, but i couldnt go past the name of the vehicle.. also its doesnt have the MG set up I used, rather the .50 flex mount.. still, i LOVE the name.
SD
**** oh yeah, and a bit of a find yesterday, i located an acrylic substitute for WEM's Lustreless OD enamel - Lifecolor UA221 Khaki Olive Drab. Pretty great match straight from the bottle, no mixing!

Seems to be the place for posting your build progress pics.. so heres mine. Almost ready for paint - outstanding tasks include all stowage, make antennas, some sanding filing touch ups, replace PE footman loops with resin, the wiring for the RWS and install a spotlight on RWS, sandbags wrapped with spall liner to be on top around open hatch, and few other minor bits of tidy up. please let me know if you see any glaring omissions or mistakes , I would rather correct before painting! the non slip was an on purpose ommision - I dont think on a diorama model with all the stowage , dust etc and all the other bits it would be noticeable. (this is a diorama model not a shelf queen!)
Obviously the mouse house type 2 pc conversion was used, but the following kits were also used - ACM (Arms Corps Models)bulged wheels, ACM spare wheels, Mouse House ASLAV PC phase 3 upgrade, ACM MEAO comms update, Mouse house ASLAV RWS mount and update set, AFV club RWS. stack more stuff for the paint and markings side been bought, but thats for later.
Adam
I absolutely hate glueing down footman loops.

Looking good Adam.
I'm about to start on redoing the moulds for this one (PC). The same way i have done the fitter/Recovery. That is the whole top of the hull from the sponson up will be one piece. Also redoing the jerry can racks, smoke launchers, all brush guards(in resin) and a couple of other bits and pieces. And the good thing is, no change to the price.
Cheers Jason

HI Matt,
Its infinately easier to build the thing first, then camo around the bar armour. The armour and mounts are tan coloured, so you can paint that first, then do the rest of the turret, and its camo, then touch up any overspray on the bar armour assembly
Hope this helps

Here is an idea, how about a set of suspension and steering linkages that are workable for the LAV FOV? Seeing as everyone wants to turn the wheels.

How about yes. We want that. How about a bunch of spall liner wrapped sandbags that fit like a doughnut over an open PC hatch?
One of The missing links in my reference though, i would like to tidy up, that includes mainly an understanding of the types of AMU? mounts, and thier common arrangements on the vehicles. It would seem anything goes, but I kow command vehicles would have different antenna numbers and types to a general troop car, and how different mission loadouts would affect the location, number and type of antenna and mounts. The gps location moves a bit, as does the blue force tracker. Some pc's have what looks like a hull side/front mount above the engine grill. the incusion of the shark fin and others changes the characteristics too, without even mentioning the platt mounts that get located all over... I need to draw a map of all locations, and possible common patrol configurations. much work but while I wait for certain deliveries in next few weeks, gives me something to work towards!
positionable steering... mm next we need open ramps, engine bay, hens teeth, some rocking horse poo and so on....

A Christmas build you say ? I too have a week off between christmas and new year, And plan on building both the type 1 and fitters (assuming its available by then) at the same time. What say you to an end of day round up of progress during yuletide? you know - few progress pics and notes each day?
I am ready to start type 1 now (see attached pic of accumulated kits for the build). Had similar pic of all the pc kits but cant find it for the life of me !!

Great idea, the fitter looks beautiful, lots of delicate details. What about the weight and thickness of the resin on your new hull? I found that with the weight of your original PC back (non air guard opening hatches) the weight of the resin on the plastic suspension was about all the plastic bits could bear, though having said that the weight would be more balanced over the entire suspension. Any pics of the "interior" of the fitter? I especially would like the cam poles, jerry cans etc. to be separate so we could make a more unique looking vehicle.
It is really good to hear about all these ASLAV developments.
Bill

G'day Bill,
Thanks for the kind words mate.
Below are two quick screen shots of the instructions to show you just how involved this one is.
Believe it or not, I don't have any interior shots of the F or the R. Doesn't interest me that much. After doing the out side I think I get burned out and want to move onto something else. Hence no interior.
The hull is at the thickest point about 5mm. The only hatches not open are the ones on the rear part of the hull. But again, not to hard to open if required. If you need a set of hatches, let me know. It is about 3mm thick under these hatches.
The cam poles are still in the rack. RAEME seem to like them still there. Helps when they need shade. And they need their shade.
The jerry racks are empty and have been completely redone. To make matters worse, the racks are left and right. This will be done to the PC as well. There were only a couple of parts from the PC that were used in this kit. Just about every thing else was remastered. And the hull has anti slip.
Looks like I will have to hurry up and do the steering then.
Cheers Jason

G'day Adam,
Your right, it will also depend on if we are talking on Operations or here in Australia. None of the ACV versions of ASLAV was deployed O/S, so the command car (0A) could be either a gun car or a PC. But that sound like SHQ Troop to me and I'm not going there (bad time with SHQ and a generator).
No not quite right. The GPS has it's own place as dose the BFT. However, the are all in different places depending on the type. Also with the BFT, there are 3 places on the 25 where it has been fitted during the trials. But it is now fixed in the stowage bin left hand side. And lets not even go there with the sharks fins. Duke is now fitted as well to add to the confusion.
The PC stowage will also have a Clark Mast in it as most PC's carried one (OP's).
And lastly the Platt mount was originally designed for the PC to go on the antenna base centre rear of the hull. So it will fit on any antenna base on any car.
Cheers Jason

Thanks for the speedy reply, I see you are up late again. What I meant by interior was I wanted to see if the hull was solid resin or if it is walled and you answered that the walls generally were 5mm all around. Very nice instructions, I can see lots of nice details including the anti-slip, what looks to be resin mesh for the turret baskets (?) and resin brush guards for the poppers and lights, very limited PE. Your casting skills are evident here, great work.
Regards
Bill

Adam,
Sounds good. I pretty much have the same stuff you have, just stashed all around my shed somewhere. i'll probably leave the F/R conversion until early next year when i have the coin. It's a fair chunk of change for the kit, and i'll have to get some work going to get that. It's definately on my to buy list.

Hey Guys
After seeing all the awesome ASLAV builds, I started my own after winning the Trumpy kit in an Ebay auction. Now, before I start I have to say I know nothing about ASLAVs other than what I've read on armorama.
Im not sure which, if any AM accessories I'll be using though I am very tempted by the mouse house bar armour set (Awesome stuff Jason!!) but for the time being the build will be pretty standard. After Ray's build (romeokilo) I decided to try my hand at a basic interior. This is based on his build and the prime portal walkaround.
So the first photos:
After a comment Bill made about suspension, I modified the kit parts by reducing to simulate compressed springs, and I also turned the front axle slightly.
Like I said I'm completely clueless about Aussie armour so I'd greatly appreciate any advice from you guys!

Hi
Just a passing comment.
If you have turned the front wheels you will also need to turn the second set of wheels 50% of the front wheels. they use the first 4 wheels to steer.
If you want to learn about Australian ALAVS try the book Military Briefs No.4 - ASLAV. Google will find it.

As this is the home ASLAV thread i want to post some pictures that others may find useful. These are quite extraordinary pictures and from a single collection.
I have had these for a while but was waiting on permission to post. (which I now have). comments are welcome but may take a while to respond to any questions as they might need to be redirected to the author.
Someof the photos are panoramic so unsure how they will turn out..
