Paul I will be at a club meeting tonight and I will ask the guys that model armor if they have used a textured spray can, where they have purchased them. I suspect it could be like you say, just check out different hardware and craft shops.
Thanks Michael. I'm looking forward to seeing what you find out. What city do you live in ?
It looks like the Mouse House ASLAV bits I'm waiting on are on the way
Cheers
Paul

I wonder what it is like to drink a coke that has sit in the blazing sun all day and shaken around for miles?
From what I remember still tastes like coke when it goes down and when it comes back up again 2 seconds later foaming from the mouth and nose.
Paul,
Let me know what you think of the little extra "part" I put in.
Cheers Jason

What else did you fellas take with you that wasn't issue? Ever any Red Bull, beer anything like that? If you've had a look around there are a number of folded camp cots on the market. Legend,Tamiya etc. is there any one that you've seen to be better than any other?
Thanks
Bill

Definatly no Beer. Red bull, Coke etc, etc yes. However, it would almost never be stowed on the outside of the vehicle. The good stuff goes inside!
Also, the folded cots and strechers are the same ones that the US uses, so any type would be OK. Im using the ones from the Legend Stryker stowage set. Another thing that a lot of cars began carriying are spine boards like
this, but dark green/olive in color. Ill be attempting to scratch one of these later on.

I did not make a master for the generator. I do intend to make a better generator as I have received more reference pictures from Frenchy (thanks again) since I made the one on my ASLAV. I could imagine the engine components being resin but the top shield and front instrument plate should be PE. If the frame was PE it would lose the tubular effect so perhaps a resin jig to bend either styrene rod as I have used or brass rod which would be the best IMHO because it could be soldered. I have heard interest from a number of parties so I wouldn't doubt that one might appear (like the Red Dott AC unit did) if I'm am too slow off the mark. Perhaps Cory might expand his PE enterprise to include resin casting too?
Earlier in this thread Darren suggested that he may turn this into a feature and asked if when I finally signed off on the build I send him pictures. Now he wasn't specific if it was my build that he wanted to feature solely as there are a number of projects going on in here so I do not want to assume it is mine alone that he is interested in.
Thanks Seb
Ray
That is good to know about the "good stuff".
Real Models makes some ADF combat ration cartons have you seen these stowed up top on either the 25's or the PC's?
I have a spinal board like the one you linked to from Pro Art. The casting (worn mold) was so bad I couldn't do anything with it. I contacted Pro Art and they said they'd send a new one but I never saw it. I wanted to include it as well but I opted for the Maple Leaf Models folded stretcher.
Thanks for the info Ray, I hope to see progress shots of your twin beauties now that you have the MH stuff.

Bill here are my AusCam colors. This photo is a reasonable representation, although it's still not really clear. I'm going to build a photo booth in the next week so I can get some better quality pics (with some good 'Day' globes hopefully).
The Tan is your mix.
The Green is 60% Tamiya Olive Drab & 40 % Tamiya Dark Yellow
The black is Tamiya Nato Black
The black and green will weather back nicely I think with some dust (using your method
).
Cheers

Paul this is coming along very nicely. Since this is a "what if" I think you have some latitude on the colours too. For me though the green (at least in this picture) seems a bit Forest Green or even straight up Olive Green, but as you say the weathering will tone it down a lot. Have you seen Real Model's new T antennae PE set, I think it will have many applications for modern vehicles.
Keep up the good work and be sure to let us see your 25 when you get to it again.

Thanks for the tip on the real model stuff Bill. They have some great stowage as well which I need to hook into.
My dilema at the moment is the quality of my photo's. I can't get consistant, repeatable, quality and color in them.
The funny thing now is that some of the best globes that give vivid real colors are not available here in Australia (eg: GE Reveal), so I need to find another means of lighting for photo's inside. Incandescent globes are being phased out, but I'll try some Phillips 'Day ' globes in my "photo booth" when I build it.
The question of colors is a difficult one as we've discussed before, particularly when you look at references like the Tankograd book you mentioned (I have it too). The greens vary from very 'Olive' colors to very 'Standard' Greens depending on the lighting and the dust. The Tan's vary a lot as well.
It would be great to have a proper recipe for both and then simply scale them to 1/35. The Leopard looks good to my eyes (although the tan could be a little warmer), however it still needs a Dull coat (which changes the colors from my experiene painting the lower hull - where the Green becomes MUCH greener), and the dust will also blend the colors together.
What are you up to ATM Bill ? Have you started the ASLAV 25 yet ?
Cheers

nothing beat a nice hot shaken can of morale after a battle run
although if you did leave a can ouside of the vehicle overnite and it was cool enough the coke was palatable

After a few weeks of drinking tepid chlorinated water and acrid Army coffee a nice hot can of coke would go down a treat. Of course if you were a spanner a nice COLD can of coke (or stronger) did go down a treat.
slightly off topic is the arrival in Australia of the M198 and ASLAV from Trumpeter. They work out about $60 Aus including postage from Southern Sky models in Perth. I expect they will be on the shelves over east shortly.

trust a spanner to be running his mouth off about drinking cold coke out bush
just kidding
i had great resepect for our spanner bretheren as they used to fix my broken bucket
plus i also used to be one too
but is was more fun breaking them than fixing them
hot cokes then became cold cokes when i got my ASLAV and my fridge along with bacon eggs, steaks, snags etc etc

A nice shot of a 25 with loaded up side bin. Is the lazer film torn or are those vision blocks broken?
Now that I have the MH resin set in my hands I'm going to start searching for images, hope you don't mind the pictures?
Does anyone make PE folding chairs or folding cots, the resin and plastic ones are very simplified.
Regards
Bill

Bill,
That is just the reflection on the periscopes....they aren't broken and the anti-laser coating isn't peeling off.

Are these vision blocks solid pieces of glass or a series of optical glass arranged kinda like roof prism binoculars?
A closer look.
