Ha, No bill you’re weathering work is great. As you say it’s a pity to put mud and dust on a carefully sprayed factory fresh finish but the vehicles do look their best when they look like they have been out in the bush for a while.
Nice work mate. You should take a few more close-up shots. I did not notice your headlight detail work until you sent the last image.

Hey David thanks so much, how is your build doing? Any chance to see some progress shots?
Wayne I'm glad I didn't spoil it for you. I will take some close ups. I had never actually seen the bags over the rear lights before but since I've seen them on a 25. I really enjoy the tiny details like making the small thingy on the side of the 50 cal, and the spiral cord, spent cases in the basket, the loaded rounds in the RWS spare tins and the generator. That RWS was a kit in itself with all the wires and chains and cables. Thanks for your comments.
Jason, the devils advocate eh, never ever enough dust and mud. On my ASLAV 25 I'll see what I can do then.
Thanks for looking and sharing.

Something I had wanted to include but had no references for were the clips seen on antennae to attach a cord to to aid in pulling down the aerial, Frenchy sent me this picture which have cropped which shows such clips, Do they look a lot like 50 cal spent cartridge clips or are they made specific for this suppose?
Thanks for your help.

Coming from you that is a compliment.
The monofilament line is the same as fishing line only much thicker. It is hard to bend when it's this thick but a little heat from a candle and it makes nice controlled bends.
Thanks Seb

The scratch built Yanmar generator and the water siphon hose made from monofilament line, I liked this detail on the real vehicles.

Well those crafty fellows, now that is ingenious. I have a pile of those Mission 50 cal links that need to added to the PC anyway I'll see if I can install them on the antennas too.
Thanks for the confirmation.

My Mix above now looks very Green again, and my original 'mix' XF62 (Olive Drab) 60 % and XF60 (Dark Yellow) 40 % looks correct !!
I'm going to compare those two colors again tomorrow in the daylight
Paul
I've checked both greens again in the daylight. I'll be using 60% Olive Drab & 40 % Dark Yellow. I'll repaint the lower hull and Dozer blade on my Leo this afternoon.
Edit: My mix is similair to the Leo below:
Quite a bit less green than your mix Bill:

Honestly mate i am absolutly gobsmacked. That thing is unbelievable. You nailed it perfectly. You have definatly set the standard. I wish mine would look even half as good as that. To tell you the truth, i am at the stage where i am starting to cut corners on mine in order to get it finished ASAP. You have convinced me to go back and do it properly. I love your headlight and HUD wiring.
The weathering is spot on for the MEAO. I wasnt going to weather mine much at all, but you have convinced me to pile the mud and dirt on. Looks like im going to have to get those Mig DVD's.
Where did you get the padlock from?
The hose on the jerry is a good addition as well. I did mine with some thin solder, but yours looks much better. And the dusty fuel spill is perfect. I was still trying to figure out how to go about adding that on mine. Oh and the blue foam mattress is a good addition. Ive seen them around, so it is still 100% accurate.
You dont miss much at all do you. I was going to do the old .50 link anntenna clip trick as well, you beat me to it!
I absolutly love it.

You are way too kind because we all know that yours has an phenomenal inside as well as an outside, mine is a mere shell of an ASLAV ;o). I think the solder for the water syphon may be a better material, I was seduced by the transparent nature of the material but at that scale it would just look opaque. I stole your RAAF marked strap from one of your pictures as well but I used Archer decals that are dimensional and when I swap out the ratchet I'm going to use the rub down decal to make it seem more like a stencil than embroidery (which it isn't).
The padlock came from Accurate Armour and there are a lot on one PE sheet. I may have to revisit the antennae as well if I'm to use the 50 link because the carbon fiber rod is a bit thin and the fat mast too fat. I have tried brass rod and have had excellent results with a more uniform taper so they might get replaced as well.
Thanks for your comment and all of your help during this build, you are incredibly generous and helpful.

If you look at the above picture of the front on view of the winch and smoke poppers you'll see I have repainted the car since the "wrong way decal" pic, it looks much more like your posted picture in the end. I find the dust really changes the look as well, much more pale green and grey blacks, the tan really stands out. Good luck with your projects.

I'm now awaiting the arrival of the new Mouse House Phase 3 ASLAV 25, yahooooo I can't wait!

That is very high praise and you are very kind to say so. All I see myself is mistakes. I look forward to starting work on my 25 now. Your previous research in this thread will prove very helpful. Once we get the colours all sorted then that's one less complication to deal with. I ordered the White Ensign Olive Drab Lusterless from Mouse House so when I have it here I'll do a draw down test. I'm watching your Leo build and I expect you'll be posting your 25 pics as soon as you get the bits from MH.
Thanks again
Bill

I just revieved my 'MA125 ASLAV-25 Phase III with turret Bar Armour MEAO Iraq 2004-2005' in the mail. I am very very very impressed. Cant wait to get my 2 sealed up and ready for the exterior. The resin Barrel was a plesent surprise and looks fantastic, it has a seperate resin hollow muzzle brake. Im going to ditch the metal one i was using for it instead. The bar armour looks great, cant wait to try my hand at that. Instructions are fantastic as well, easy to understand and very clear.
Top work Jason.

Great stuff Ray.
You're using MA 125 to finish off your two current projects aren't you ?
BTW: I think I'll be using the pintle mount from my Mouse House PC kit for the 50 cal on the Leopard
I'll be putting an RWS on the PC like Bill (when I get around to it).

Bill early in your build you applied the anti slip to you ASLAV. Could you let me know if this was Mr Surfacer 500 that you airbrushed or was it from a spray can? It looks to be spot on for the scale.
thanks

I used the Rutoleum product mentioned on Armorama in the past year or so. It was very simple to spray but as you saw in the earlier thread a lot of trouble to mask properly. Here is Geno's article on how he accomplished the anti slip coating.

I hope this helps you.

Hi Bill, thanks for letting me know that it was the Rustoleum product. I had being concerned that the textured spray would be too rough to be scale realistic. All I need now is to see if there is a similar product at the local hardware store (I'm in Melbourne). Games Workshop has "rough coat" but at $28 for a can I will still keep looking.

Hi Michael !
I've looked for Rustoleum here in Oz - no luck
Your best bet is to go into a few hardware stores (and when no-one is looking ) do a test spray on a piece of plastic. I'll be interested to know if you find something that suits Ok.

According to some posts I've came across on other forums, Australian craft stores like Riot or Spotlight sell Krylon paint in spray can. Krylon makes "Make It Stone Textured paint" that should be similar to Rust-Oleum textured paint. Maybe worth a look ?

Dear Bill,
I am not sure whether you will even recognize this post because you have already received so many positive comments on your ASLAV. However, let me also congratulate to a GREAT job! Especially details like the generator and the spare tyre on top make the kit looking almost real.
You know I just finished one as well, but there is something telling me the Aussie versions look even better than the US ones. Your LAV is a real best! I am really looking forward to see any of your future projects.
PS: I read your short comment on the straps. I have never used a PE strap and for sure the Eduard´s look good, but from my experience it is very easy to make them from a simple strip of office paper. To bend them exactly how you wish and to paint them is VERY easy
Best regards
Jiri

This is high praise coming form you. Your Scud Hunter HMMWV inspired me to step up my modelling skills and to bring some art to modelling. Making something that looks like the real thing is important and we all strive for that but there is something more that you bring to yours and it is artistry.
I have some ratchet straps now so I will replace all my straps add the tow bar and a stretcher give it a good look over before I call it quits and install it on the base. I had mine stacked with Red Bull and Coke boxes but took them off but seeing the colour they brought to yours I may put one or two back on. I wonder what it is like to drink a coke that has sit in the blazing sun all day and shaken around for miles?
Thanks for your tips on the straps as well, I usually use Tamiya tape and lead foil but will try your paper straps they look very nice.
So does this mean you may do an ASLAV next, I anxiously await word on your next project. Thank again for your comments. Every model made makes one aware of it's short comings so the next one will be even better.
Regards

Paul I will be at a club meeting tonight and I will ask the guys that model armor if they have used a textured spray can, where they have purchased them. I suspect it could be like you say, just check out different hardware and craft shops.
