And none taken this end either, Gino. Phew, I was really concerned that I might have stepped over the line a little bit then. I'm the new guy here so I should listen to your advice in future. I just thought that since people were responding & I knew no better then I'd carry on. I will still respond to this thread but will follow your advice from now on. Excellent! I'm glad. That was an interesting piece of info earlier, Gino, when you said one fueler for every 5 cargo trucks. Now I can start planning what I eventually intend to build. How long, on average, was a general supply convoy? How many trucks?

Well, that depends on what size unit the convoy is for. A BN-sized convoy would be about 10-15 trucks. A Company-sized convoy may only be 3. A BDE convoy may be over 100.

I think the tanker was empty. It didn't explode, but the trucks fuel tank did burn a little bit. Of course it was CBL'd The mine was a counting type, and probably had a second and a half delay as it went off just behind the cab on the passenger's side. Nobody was hurt, but the tax payer lost some cash.

the one I was on that tripped the mine had about thirty trucks anda couple jeeps, plus a couple M113's. But I think that can be misscontstrued very easilly. A convoy could be just about anysize if needed. When we went out into the Que Son Valley the first time; the convoy probably had close to a hundred tracks and trucks by the time we were twenty miles north of Chu Lai. We just kept picking up pieces of equipment along the way (they'd be parked alongside the rod waiting to join in). Convoys were as big as they needed to be

I certainly dont think I'll be building 100 trucks but I'm thinking of putting several stretches of road together, each with a vehicle on it so that it will break down into individual model displays. Does that make sense? If so, what do you think?

Oh, BTW, fellas,
I managed to pick up a couple of boxes of D-Toys M35 resin wheels yesterday which are very nice indeed. Now I'm debating which wheels set to use; the resin set or the kit supplied set which I've done a lot of work on. What do you think? I suppose I could use the injection moulded set on other parts of various dioramas, couldn't I?

I've only see two convoys of that size, and one was even bigger. It was two days or so after the start of Tet in 1968. Was so big that you couldn't see the front or back if you were in the middle. Had a little bit of everything in it; with a for real aluminum overcast flying over it. But a lot of times a big convoy like that will break up along the way. The one I was on broke up several times along the way to Baldy, and maybe half at the most went on north to Da Nang (we made the left turn at Baldy for the scenic drive to Ross)

Hi fellas,
I've been looking at the couple of photos that Frenchy sent of the M49A1 & M49A2C above & I've been looking at the bed side panels holding the gas tank. The M49A1 appears to have side panels like the bed on the M34 whereas the M49A2C has side panels like the M35. Is this so and would I be able to use the side panels from an old Revell M34 kit that I have laying around here to go towards making an M49A1? What other differences would there be between the A1 & A2 versions?

Incidentally, does anybody know if there is an AM product that will backdate the base kit from M49A2C to an M49/M49C/M49A1C? Just to make my life a little easier, you see!

I never saw a hard top on anything but a pickup truck. But alas I'm sure somebody will produce a photo of one!

I've seen a photograph of an M54 guntruck with a hard top in Vietnam though I appreciate they were pretty rare.
I'd love to see photographic evidence of an M35 with a hard top, though. Mabye one will turn up.

Sorry Joe, no Vietnam hard top picture yet...If I ever find one you'll be the first to know
I've read that metal hard-top configurations are most often found on vehicles that have been equipped with a winterization kit (additional insulation and personnel heater in the cab) - not really needed in Vienam IMHO - but who knows

I'm doing well. Been working around the house and listening to a lot of good jazz these last few weeks. Also been doing a good bit of star gazing thru my scope. Been too damned hot to go fishing or doing anything constructive. Girl friend's back home again, so I'm now grounded again! Anyway right now I'm trying to come up with a plan to con my three sons into painting my condo!

well here in Indiana, we'd give anything for a few forty degree nights!!!!! My daughter told me the other night that it was 112 degrees in Dallas Texas!

as for projects in the Condo, all I can say is they're never ending! Have run out of LP storage again, and must have four hundred records looking for a rack (I have about 3500). So that one is becoming important again. (racks don't come cheap). Also getting things in place to finally finish the down stairs bathroom remodel. More money I don't have!
