Not time wasted! Never wasted! It looks great, even if only 11% of him can be seen on that side. The effort is always worth it, and it shows.

You are getting this done and done incredibly well at a very fast pace Jerry- its fantastic to watch it all coming together so well. I particularly like the Office, especially the expertly observed and placed details on his tunic. The horse hair coming out of the seats is great too.

Conor and Karl,
Thanks for staying with the program here. It may seem fast paced to you but it seems like a glacial pace to me. It is taking so long that I am losing some of the small painting skills I learned when I returned to the hobby. I thought the face looked OK until I say it on the big screen. Wow! I need to get back to work on that. I think I got the pale dead look somewhat OK but I was going for one eye open and one closed. Maybe it's the angle.
Oh well, least it can't be seen to well.

I finally wrestled my airbrush into submission after not using it for over a year. I had forgotten everything about using it,of course!!
Anyway, got a basecoat on. I always think the vendors make the panzer yellow way too olive so I mixed my own. I used about 3/4 dark sand and 1/4 yellow ochre, thinned well down.
My not seem like a lot to you guys but this airbrush idiot is proud of himself today!!
Now some cammo paint patterns!! Oh boy.

That looks like a real good base colour!
I used to tone down Tamiya's dark yellow by adding 1 part Buff to 3 parts Yellow, but I like this mix even better.

Looking good! I'm a big fan of the lower tire pressure as you've achieved here, instead of the rock-hard 75-100psi that is prevalent in most modeling!

Thanks Ron,
I used to use the Tamiya mix as well but thought I'd give this a go. I think maybe a bit more grey would be cool maybe as well?
I must keep using my airbrush though,so I don't loose the "code" again.

Thanks Mike,
I usually don't make tires this flat but I thought they would be like this because of the situation. I used to comment on the model airplane guys making their tires waaay too flat as any crew chief would not tolerate that.
But a bit flat is OK to show weight I think? And here, the German war effort was starting to show the effects of shortages resulting from loss, consumption and strategic bombing. Tires were by this time, a precious commodity and were salvaged at every opportunity.

Ayhan,Kurt and Si,
Thanks so much for commenting guys. Not much time spent on this over the weekend. Lots of other stuff went on so.... hopefully get back on it today after I pick up my newly inspected car!! Woohoo.
Got to check out a good movie this weekend though,"The Judge". Good writing and great dialogue for once, something missing from almost every movie now.Brilliant acting as well.
Thanks again guys,
J

Hi Jerry,
How do you air spray Model Color?
Maybe a stupid question, but I have no idea.
What pressure and do you dilute it? If so, with what.
Yeah, yeah, basic, basic. But I always spray painted with Humbrol and Tamiya.
Thanks in advance,
Paul

Paul,
Not a stupid question but you are asking a stupid guy concerning airbrushing! LOL I stink at it. Nut I was using about 13-15 psi on my compressor and I diluted the paint with water about 50/50 if that helps you.
It is very hard to spray acrylic paint for me and I can never get to spray small patterns for cammo and the like. I am trying some new stuff today and maybe going back to enamel for the cammo paint on the car.

Paul,
There is a lot of great advice out there, if you search the forums. Here's one in particular that solved my Vallejo airbrushing problems: Weird Airbrush Problem. HTH.

Thanks for the airbrush tips as I can also use them!!
Some mucking around with the paint last night yielded this:
For once I can look at this face and not cringe as I don't think it's too bad. But I think that is more a testament to Roger Saunders' sculpting than it is to my painting.
I used LifeColors for everything and broke down this time and used AM decals for the Litzen on the collar. There is a coat of un-dried matte mediu on the collar so it may look a bit shiney.
I have to mention all this so Romain doesn't kick my butt. Come to think of it,haven't seen him on the board lately. I hope he's OK??

Dear Mike,
Dear Jerry,
Thanks for the link. Quite some answers to my questions.
Jerry,
What a nice thread to follow. Every new photo is a surprise.
Your serie is the first I visit after opening this link. But, to be honest, I hope to see the horses and their gun back some day as well since dios with horses are very rare and your qualities do promise a lot.

J, got a question about your car, now I know first hand what damage bullets can do to a car, but my question is, what direction did the bullets strike the car?

2Mike-thanks buddy!
@Paul-thanks for the kind words man. Yes!! The horses are all part of this bigger dio. I am just getting some of the background stuff done now.
@Si-Yeah,I saw a lot of shot up stuff in Iraq as well. I was aiming here more for shrapnel hits. The only bullet hit is in the roof?
Thanks guys,
J

Ahhh that makes more sense, just was looking at one side of the car being all shot up and the other side not I was like you have what looks like exit holes but no entry holes, but if its shrapnel then that looks pretty effective.
