Don't know what happened to the first pic,so here it is again.

Hope that worked.Jeff T.

Thanks Jeff. I will put the pictures here later. I think Tamiya's Puma is so far better.

Greg, because I have failed to finish Sturmtiger last year, this will be my first 48-scale AFV.

Hi Greg,
Both your M-10's look nice. I am glad I am not the only one suffering burnout. Not to mention all the other obstacles in my way.
I will post photo updates tonight on my Sd.Kfz 7 and trailer. I am about 90% finished.

Greg, that M-10 you built is killer. Is that the Verlinden Resin Stowage set?

Burak - I think it should be a good one to finish

Burnout - ended I think when I saw Zon's jagdtiger build. Sometimes just need to visualize that next step coming together without over-thinking it all

and thanks for the words guys the set is from Legend, except only the driver periscope is from the Verlinden set. I probably added a few small pieces from Blackdog in there too.

wow - this thread has moved on ! I can teven find my entry photo posted way back!

long time since i have built any aircraft. Had this kit in the stash long before the brand new super duper Eduard kit was released. Its the original Mig-21 mf kit that academy released. overall a very nice model - but there is a bit of a problem with the spine and the tail not being of correct appearance for fishbed MF type.

this is the correction i am using for the tail

and also want to use this Aires resin pit

decal choices - decided a long time ago - natural metal appearance will be fun

some but not all PE set will be used

most parts fit well

you need to add a nose weight to have the model set on 3 wheels

also have the eduard resin engine and wheel set - that i bought recently just to see what the brassin parts were like - very nice! not really intended for the academy kit - but why not.

for the front gear I had to insert a metal tube to depict compressed oleo

the resin engine fits fine in the academy fuse without mods

aires cockpit will be a good fit - for once !

After a nearly year long hiatus (long story, no need for details) I'm finally able to revive my plastic addiction. I humbly submit my campaign entry:

For those keeping score at home this was my entry for round 1:

I have the Tamiya JagdTiger I just picked up, and if I have time, I might throw that in as well. Looking forward to getting elbow deep in some Tenax 7R.

Step 1:

Tires are Vallejo Panzer Aces Dark Rubber with a drop of Gray Wash to lighten.

Wheels and Suspension are Model Air Black Green with a drop of Duck Egg Green to knock down the brightness of the green.

Tracks are a 5:1 mix of Model Air Gun and Flat Black.

Fit is awesome...that is only 10 parts total for both sets of tracks. Everything but the suspension is molded as one part, which is nice since the tracks would be a nightmare, but painting as such is problematic. Not real crazy about a mold seam running the entire length of the track top to bottom...most will be hidden above and below, but will need some careful sanding and touch up afterwards.

I have some touch up work to do, mainly with a bit of over coverage of the "steel black" on the tracks. As I'm planning on the Tunisia 1943 option, most of the lower hull and running gear will be rather dusty. It's the OCD in me to get the wheels repainted in between the guide horns of the tracks.

OK Ian, now which is the REAL M10? ...but it does have the profile

Man, those Germans can't even build an accurate model of an M10 in 1/1 scale!

Or is it 1/0.75?

Jeep's built and primed/pre-shaded. Pics soon...

Cheers!

Matt - that's a long time without touching plastic, glad you're still alive and sane The UC has a good start

Stefan - I can't wait to see how you paint around the clear window parts because that messes me up.

Small update for this Friday evening.

Most of the hull construction is complete. The gray is from filling in some ejection sink marks in the floor. Six total, but three were hidden by the sides of the IBUC (Itty Bitty Universal Carrier) and one by the seat. All are sanded smooth.

I will add most of the interior detail (minus weapons, etc) then give it a good coat of primer and check for any missing gaps.

Marc-----beautiful looking half-track and a great presentation all around, especially with the base.

Matt---welcome to the fray with your Gun Carrier.

Mark C----great looking MIG-21. Your natural metal finish is outstanding. Makes me want to build one..........have a couple of the Eduards in the stack.

Hi Ian and Zon - cheers guys.

- thanks the Eduard kit is something else ! I have the IAF edition - I am really keen to kick that off real soon!

I made a big push on this during the last week.

very happy to say its all done.

first photos from PB - then one to upload to the gallery.

unfortunately the czech air force markings - I made small error with that. the blue should be pointing forward - not at the odd angle I have it. sorry to czech guys for not paying enough attention to the photos.

Mark, all I can say is "Damn"!!!! Beautiful work on that one. Panel line work on a NMF aircraft can be tough but you pulled that one off beautifully. I love the Eduard Knight on the tail. You know a model company has influence when the Czech Air Force is using markings from a model company and not vice versa.

Best wishes, Ian

Mark, your NMF is superb! The etched panel lines really make a difference for weathering...my kit (Revell's A-10) had raised lines, and it's been a challenge. Of course, the AM pieces really add a lot to the look of the bird, but I'm glad to hear that the kit fits well alone. My first experience with Academy kits was iffy, but I've been impressed with everyone else's work with them...gotta give them a try myself. Anyway.

Is your mirror base just simply a cosmetics mirror taken out of its plastic frame? It looks great! And one more question...is that an Eduard logo decal on the starboard tail? It goes well with the CAF theme

Hi Ian - big thanks for support. Glad I can relax and enjoy the other builds now. Its a really nice set of markings. Of course Eduard have a ltd edition Mig-21 with more accurate decals for "tiger hunter" so if you can get your hands on one

Robby - you did awesome work on the A-10 - absolutely 100% agree with you regarding engraved lines versus raised. The academy kits are pretty good - this would have been a lot easier except for grafting on that resin tail. NOW i hear academy are bringing out new tool 48th scale f-4 Phantom - wooo hooo !!

The base is actually a rotating display stand. I was experimenting shooting some video -- maybe coming soon . But decided to shoot some stills and it has come out kinda nice !

Yes as Ian spotted it is the Eduard logo - apparently the squadrons modelling fraternity painted it on the tail as a salute to Eduard company. It was on 5303 for a time and then removed.

cheers
Mark

Beautiful MIG, one of my all time favorite planes.
So was the Alcad worth it over the Mr. AL? Which was easier to use? I have used Floquil Old Silver in the past with good results (to me anyway...)

Mark - that is fantastic work!!!! I love the cockpit pic with so many details. The gallery to upload your pic is here. You must be logged in and the pic needs to be 800x600 or smaller I believe
