Gary and Sal progress is well
@Sal - Shep Paine's diorama book describes figure painting, in summary for 1/35 there's 5 layers light to dark on clothing folds and faces; but in 1/48th you only need 3 layers: main color, highlights, dark recesses. Eyes can be a horizontal slit. I'll get out the book and put up a pic later. Right now I'm recovering from too much thursday night partying
For my dio, I'm going to try to place the tank horizontal and create some splashing mud puddles to make the tank look like it's in motion. If there's more ideas for making live puddle splash let me hear them all (got yours Zon )
p.s. those unstarted kits sitting in their boxes looks magical
Jeff - the Puma is a great AFV choice I think

The old Shep Paine book How to Build Model Dioramas is like $16 and well worth it I think. Also, the newer Zaloga Modelling US Armor of WWII is great. I'm no expert but at least the info is good. Vallejo paints you have to blend the transitions with layers of Glazes (thinned paint/tinted water). Here's a few pics from Shep's book for the basic goals, basically you see less detail in smaller scales so less painting is needed:

Here's my first offical update. The Puma has been shipped
Zon...Have fun with the road wheels.I just built 2 Panthers in a row Thats why I went with a non-tracked kit.I need a break from roadwheels,I'm seeing them in my sleep Jeff T.
Jeff: I hear you on the Panthers. The road wheels turned out to be not that bad on the Jadgtiger. The tracks look like a bear though with multiple ejector marks. That will be next, or maybe I'll just skip ahead to the superstructure.
BTW: Oahu (fortunately not my island) had 2 - 2 1/2" hail and a tornado yesterday, along with some flooding. Several roofs ended up in other peoples yards. We just had light rain and some wind.
Greg: hope it was useful to you.
Happy Modelling, -zon

Progress after one night of work
This kit is fighting me on everything. The turret ring was too small for the turret and had to be widened. The turret had a huge gap in the front at the top. The top of the hull plates didn't fit prperly. I'm sure there will be more as I continue.

I feel your pain John with my HB T-34 getting the tracks to fit. You definitely need to test fit everything before glueing. But, the end result will be a very nice looking tank After a completed HB, a switch to a easy-going Tamiya kit is more then deserved. It does look good so far. I've only seen one completed by MIG of this KV version.

Hey guys, this GB is getting off to a great start, props to everyone on the great work !!
Here we go - I located the Hobby Boss kit, the Tank Workshop conversion and some spare parts in the stash, including an alternate Lion Marc 76mm gun, as it struck me that it might be worth considering swapping out the 75mm for the 76mm as was done by forward maintenance units on occasion. We see how that looks as the build progresses. The Tamiya tracks are left overs from the last GB, as the Crab had to be fitted with British pattern tracks to look right - they should be an improvement over the rubber bands if I can get them on OK. May have to scrounge some stowage as well, but for the moment this should document the starting point.
Now its on to getting the suspension together - even with uprated springs the Jumbo was a challenge for the VVS suspension to hold up - compressing the front tower a smidge to match photos should be interesting.

Man some of you guys are really moving along. Nice progress.
I on the other hand was going to get started on Saturday since bench time has been non existent.
After priming the Bandai 8 ton I moved onto the Gaso.Line trailer. Upon completing the inventory I noted 2 missing items and somewhat panicked because I bought this kit 5 years ago.
What to do???
Well I e-mailed Gaso.Line and low and behold they are sending me the replacements at no cost. These guys have my business. That's what I call fast answer and fast results.
BUY Gaso.Line.

Mateusz - loving the GMC with the extra pe
Tomislav - The stug with gear is looking the part. I'm not sure if the inner MG shield should have that hole there - maybe can cover it with a small poster as I've seen pics of soldiers doing that.
Konrad - drool has started to form in the corner of my mouth. Thanks for pointing out the need to put aside an extra pair of Tamiya tracks for this. I don't think the rubber kit tracks would work well with the Hauler duckbills
Marc - yes, gasoline is awesome sauce and hope to see that build soon!

Greg - glad you like it - I may scratch the duckbills, have some info on doing that.
Tomislav - it may be late to observe, but the MG shield on a Stug G is held open by the hatch being propped against it - can you still open yours? If not you can lay down the shield and the hole will be less visible, but the MG will have to go. Love the build either way, keep going
HTH,
Konrad

Great builds everyone, love the Stug, without a doubt the Stug III is my favourite WWII vehicle. Greg the dio is looking good, keep up the excellent work. I have reached a bit of an empasse as I don't know what to build for the campaign. Maybe you can all help me decide, this is what I've got in my stash,
Tamiya British Light Utility Car 10HP Tilly
Tamiya Russian KV-2 Gigant Tank
Tamiya Citroen Traction IICV Staff Car
Tamiya Jagdtiger early version
Tamiya Russian SU 122
Hobbyboss Russian KV1 Ehkranami Tank
Hobbyboss Russian KV-2 Tank
Let us know what you think.........

Konrad - would love to see how to scratch duckbills
Jason - I vote to go big and do the KV2 or Jagdtiger. The Tamiya KV2 goes together real easy and looks good with gear thrown all over the fenders and coming out of the storage boxes (cut the lids and replace with pe or plastic card). Happy choosing

Fellow 48 folks,
A few comments here.
Tomislav - The Stug is coming along fine. The suggestions regarding the MG shield seem to make sense, otherwise an excellent model in the making.
Greg- I really like the planned scene and, based on your prior work, the T-34 will be real nice, especially with the bedspring armor - a field modification I have always thought was 'cool'.
The rest of the builds are really coming along nicely.
jason - I vote for the KV-2 - the Gigant is a neat behemoth!
Thanks,
Stephen

MY my, some great and a lot of progress here
@ Greg, 5 layers of paint @ 1/35, no wonder why mine look like sh*t, I go 2 maybe 3
@ Jason, I vote for the KV-2 as well need to get myself another 1 of those
Well I didn't meet Zon deadline of Monday but I did make some progress, Like I said this kit has more decals thin parts and I really have to give koodos to Academy here because I don't remember the "No Step" markings on planes that I built 30 years ago or putting a decal over a decal like the TR #'s here
Also back then these big red fuel take marks would have to be painted
More decal work tomorrow

Here is my progress on the Cromwell so far.
I really get OCD over the way the tracks lay, avoiding sharp angles, etc. Spend way too much time picking at them........

Nice progress Tomislav on the Stug!
Sal, Since your close to finishing maybe you should jump in with another build!
Always great to get modeling stuff in the mail Jeff.
Patrick your tracks look spot on!
I finally got something done on my 8 ton. The front suspension.

Looks like it will be the Tamiya KV2, although I did one of those for the last 1/48 campaign, but hey ho, atleast I know it's an easy kit to build, if I get the chance I will do the Jagdtiger as well. Thanks for your input guys, appreciate it.
