A little bit of progress.
With the PE added. The tank is ready for paint. I'm still going to brush paint it.
Now to start with accessories. The kit provides a chain...sort of. It's composed of 24 styrene links that have to be assembled. It's tedious and each link has to be held closed until the cement sets. It actually looks pretty good when done.
And a quick look at the figures. They are actually pretty nice. I would have preferred French or even Doughboys and had them moving across no man's land with the tank.
I'm getting together items for the scene. I've got a wagon wheel I plan on breaking up and placing as wreckage. Maybe a discarded French helmet. Stuff like that. I'm currently making the barbed wire. I tried to take some pictures of that but the wire really doesn't show up well.

Alan,
Are you going to put a casualty clearing station near that pile of helmets?

Dick: I'm looking forward to your next update
Johan: Very nice little vignette!
Si: You're putting a lot of great work in on your build as always, I'm hoping one day I'll be able to scratchbuild that kind of detail. What's next on your list?
Keith: Great choice on the color scheme! Your vignette is looking good, how difficult was it to create the tree?
Alex: Those figures look like a nice little project in their own right. How is the hull of the FT-17 holding together?
Rick: First photo is technically a thumbnail. Outstanding choice by the way, and I have to say that I'm jealous yours came in already
Al: Wow... just wow... I don't think that I fully realized the scale of your project, but seeing it laid out like that gives us a real appreciation of what you're working on. I especially like the little touch of the helmets by the side of the tracks, they lend a somber feel appropriate for the subject.

Hi Jeremy,
Next on the list is making all the splinter padding for the bridge, whilst doing that, getting the searchlight platform between the first & second funnels done, so I can get the funnels and their stays in place.

Hi Simon great work as usual
Jeremy the tree is just a old Lupin plant root so did not make it but will be adding some foliage to it to give a bit more life. More work done buy way of getting the mud started looking for the wet look on the tracks.

Quick update. I managed to get some paint on the FT-17 last night. The instructions paint guides were ho-hum; they only showed one side. I referred heavily to an old issue of Scale Modeler for the paint scheme. The "sand" portions are too dark and probably will be redone. To be honest, they dried a lot darker than I had expected. Then I'll add the black edges.
And here's a shot of the barbwire strands I made. I thought I had posted them in the last update but apparently didn't.

Wow, some great stuff here since i last checked in! good job everyone. Special wow to you Alan, i was impressed by Somme 1 and this new one seem to be right on the money aswell!
I actually went ahead and finished my little vignette
Airfix mark 1 Female tank 1/76
Airfix 1/76 British infantry (Horrible...)
Painted with acrylics and some oil paints for weathering
All in all I'm happy with it but to be honest the biggest success here was to simply finish something! So many lessons learned for the future! (Did i mention i have ordered the Meng Renault FT-17? )

Hi Simon, Jeremy, Alex and Johan,
Thanks, glad you enjoying the build so far.
Johan,
Congrats on a finished project, the Tank and display are looking great. Nice work.
Keith,
Great wok also. You might consider a little touch up around the edges of the base. I like the work you've done here.
Hi Alex,
Coming along, the wire looks good too, not too thick but with nice detail. Are you going to vary the mud colour some dry some wet? Look forward to further developments.
Simon,
Good progress on the ship.
Excellent work going on folks.
My Ford T Ambulance arrived last week
More work
Cheers
Al

Hi fellow modelers! Fine work, one and all.
I'm also going to build Takom's Saint-Chamond for this campaign.
I was having a hard time deciding what to build. I even went so far as to get Commander's Schneider 75mm Mle 1897 over the summer. And at one point I thought it was going to be Meng's FT-17. But once I saw this kit announced, I was psyched! The decision was suddenly easy. I ordered it from Lucky Model, and it arrived right after Christmas. Since I'll be traveling for work over the next couple of months, it came on the road with me. I'll paint it when I get home.
Here's the start picture from Jan 19th...
...and here's my progress so far.
I've finished the upper hull, all the armament, and the road wheels. The towers on the top of the hull needed a little filler. The seam on the tower halves run through a bunch of detail, so I found it easier to replace some rivets instead of trying to fill and sand around them. Other than that, assembly has been pretty good. I'm looking forward to building the suspension; from the instructions it seems like it's going to look pretty cool.
