Your scratchbuild-qualities are perfect!
For me it´s to difficult, to build a simple wooden-box, made from plastic-parts.

But the wooden box, which I built some days ago, was made of real wood and very easy to build... even for me.
I have some styrofoam-sheets at home, so I can try to build something.

greetings...

Thank you Steven and Soeren for your kind words.
It is always the best way to use natural wood for building the wooden things, because its easy to get good appearance. Painting of plastic for wood is a bit tricky a the result for me always quiet mysterious
Now I have ordered some small machines from England, Clarke lathe, Proxxon micro milling machine and bench circular saw, so my progress should be a bit faster and the scratch built parts more exact and crispy.
Thanks for looking

Continued on the firewall, covers for level indicators added, all the wash holes are ready for their lids and wooden texture applied on the roof.

Now I glued front part of the firewall on the boiler, earlier mentioned bad fitting had to be fixed with putty and sanded. I will check and resand it after surfacer again. Parts of the coal container glued together, I have sanded off wiring and other details, because they need to be reworked. Also all oval windows will need extra work and changes, so far I have sanded off parts of them. Inside walls filled, sanded and a bit changed. Two small side boxes on BR86 283 are various and different from the kit ones, I will use their bases and make new lids. The box at the front of the coal box is not bad, just some extra details to be added.

Small wheel from the kit reworked to the right one. I will apply surfacer now, resand and polish it and finally I will make a mould to cast needed amount of the wheels.

More updates tomorrow

Now the wheel in surfacer ready for making the mould together with some other small parts. Small progress on tender done as well, surfacer painted and another coat will be applied when everything is resanded and polished. Some small details will be added after that and these areas will be ready for paint.

This is interesting, and looks like a big kit. I have noticed it as I really like the bleak Trumpeter art work on the box top. I was wondering if Trump somehow think this could be linked up with their Karl mortar. Any photo I remember seeing of Karl never seems to include the loco. Is this a candidate, do you think?

For the Karl mortar, there are one or two with a base design to fit RR tracks. If you prefer, you can find the RR flat gondolas and mount ir to one of them.

Thanks, Matt, that is right, Karl was mounted on two bogies for transport on railway, and I have to find my picture with this monster coupled with BR 52
This is one of them I built earlier this year.

Now I got ready platform for the tender, which is not metal, but wooden one in my case, and I finished other masters for small parts, this time level indicator levers and holders for all handwheel rods. They will be cast in two parts and their high will be set during assembly.

Continued with interior. I have done some drawings, which my friend modeller will turn into PE parts - that is actually his small business. He has done some number plates for my loco already and now he is working on window frames for me. Meanwhile I made a base from clear plastic, set up guide rails and small wheels. These windows close to the doors are missing in the kit anyway. Locks and drawing bars will be added as well, and the frames. Finally all around will be painted in black. Next task is steam generator for power supply. I will use one from the kit, with some extra work I should get good result.

First castings obtained, valve and regulator hand wheels in scale proportions, three way valve and other small parts. Very thin membrane can be removed easily, so there is not really much to clean here.

Hi Andrew, thank you for your kind words.
The steam generator is almost finished and ready for surfacer and polish, then I will make moulds once again, because this kind of generator fits for most steam locos from WWII era, BR 86 is just one of many others equipped with it.

I got ready a bit simplified socket and plug for the lights (according to the pictures, I will have to reduce diameter of the round end, some things are not perceptible without many times zoomed picture ) and more details added on the back part of the tender.

An amazing build! I am looking at starting a 1/35 Carl Morser, but nothing near this. Saw the big kit at my LHS. Keep it up.

Now I was gonna build compresor, but I found out, that one in the kit cannot be used at all. That was suppose to be older Nielebock-Knorr model in use before 1934, very simplified. CMK had this parts in resin made even better than Trumpy. BR 86 283 has improved Tolkien-Knorr compressor, which I will follow. Upper part should be scratch built easily, to make up the cylinders I will use PE parts, just ordered from my supplier. I will return here, once they done for me.

This is what I need:

So something else chosen instead, the free axles. Here I can use kit parts, with some small adds and changes I should get good result.

Fresh pictures soon

Some details added and spring holders are changed. There are holders for two rods at the front of the free axle frame, verticaly mounted in the kit have to be reworked to their horizontal position. I did small job on the rods, now they will be filled and a pin slots will be drilled through. For their holders I will use spare PE with holes drilled for the pins. Then I will add oilers and needed fitting to connect lubricating system later.

Hi Libor, your work and progress of the build is very nice!
I also try to scratchbuild some parts, which is not easy for me with my limited skills.
But I´m happy with the results so far.

Thank you for your inspiration!

greetings...
