Nearly there. Still to do the "breaky-offy" bits, but need some chipping etc first. The canopy is obviously only a convenient mask. I have painted the real canopy as well.

Great Mustang, Pete! Honestly, you could just slap the canopy on now and it would look fantastic, but if you wanna keep working, who am I to stop you? I can't wait to see the REAL final product!

Here is my entry for this campaign, a converted modern Mitsubishi FUSO truck with AA gun mounted on the back:
I was originally going to do this for the technology campaign, but other matters delayed this build, so I am doing it here.
The truck is a battery operated motorized kit. The electric motor was originally housed in the cab. I will have to make an entire interior for it
I cut down the cargo bed to make it more of a flatbed to mount the gun
No windows were provided, so I had to drill out the frames and make some out of clear plastic from a vegetable container. This truck has 8 windows!
Once the truck is finished, I will start on the gun.

A few progress pics:
Waaay behind schedule. Because of deliveries and sanding (and I mean a lot of sanding) I wanted to finish this up next weekend.
All that's left is paint, canopy and main rotor blades and then the payload. I want a sharks face like the P40 or the A-10 but may run out of time for that.
This has been fun but no more AURORA kits for a while. Too much fixing this and fixing that!

Jeff S.Looking very nice Dude.I do have a question though, and I will preface that by saying,I know nothing about military aircraft.I like the two different helmet colors,is there a reason for that?Jeff T.

Most pilots have their own helmets, kinda like race car drivers and they have their own pattern and colors.
I just went off pictures and actual images of finished heli models to "formulate" the colors. These figures at 1/48th scale are so small, a tiny brush was needed.
This is my first attempt at a helicopter model so many may be cringing already.
Has anyone used the translucent spray paint on clear canopies before? I want to give the canopy a different look by shading it a yellow but by still able to see inside.

I was just wanting to shoot it straight out of the can with clear yellow.
Need to find something to test it on first!

Here is my selection:
http://gallery.kitmaker.net/showphoto.php/photo/377856/ppuser/43479I have always liked this scale for ground subjects, and I was sorry to see it go in the 70s. I'm very glad to see renewed interest in this scale. I bought a bunch of the old Bandai kits over the years, and stashed them away. It used to be that the Bandai figure kits were very sought after, but the quality was awful, and now that Tamiya has scaled down some key 1/35 sets, there's just no reason for me to build those old figures. The box art is fun to display though. I almost bought this kit just for the figures. My reasoning was that their quality is very good, and for little more than the price of what two resin figures would cost, I get a well tooled vehicle kit thrown in too.

Greg, Jeff & Ian, thanks for the comments. Some really neat builds here, and just glad to be a part of this.
I built the gun over the weekend. This kit has a ton of parts, and most of them are really small. I forgot that Ace makes a lot of 1/72 kits and those parts are always tiny. It took hours and hours to build this, even without using all the parts since I am mounting the gun on a truck bed.
Here it is ready for paint:
Here is how it will sit on the back of the truck:

Jim: Nice truck and gun. It's got me thinking about the next End of Days build. The gun came out very well.
Jeff S. - good work on that old thing!! For the canopy, you might try either Tamiya or Vallejo transparent colors through the airbrush. They go on pretty thin, so you could build up the color.
Happy Modeling, -zon

Pete... Man,great link, that canopy looks awesome.
Jeff S... Hope your canopy comes out well.If I know you it will.
Steve... Welcome to the fray Nice choice on a kit.I have not built a halftrack yet.Need to do one soon.
Jim... Gun looks very sweet. It fits great.Maybe some type of armor around the outside edge of the bed to protect the gun and gunners?
Zon... Nice to have you back.
Here's my question for the night.
I am undesided as to which fuel cans to use on my build.here's a pic
You can see they are two sizes. The one on the left is the one that came with the orignal Italeri kit,and the one on the right is the Tamiya "extra".As you can see one is a bit larger than the other.
I don't understand why the Tamiya cans are so much bigger.
Am I correct in remembering they came in two sizes?Jeff T.

Jim - the truckbed is looking good and the gun is very detailed-looking at least for all those little parts you had to suffer through.
Steven - Glad to see you here in the campaign. Look forward to the halftrack build.
Jeff- good question
